Hello fellow KREIA Members,

Your newly elected KREIA Officers and Directors just finished their first monthly board meeting and it was a barn-burner and one of the longest board meetings in recent history. You have elected and installed a slate of great individuals who want to see KREIA around for a very long time.

There are some very pressing critical concerns for KREIA in today’s crazy market. Sure, sharp investors understand this is perhaps the best market for investors in decades; however, the media and the public’s perception is a totally different story as you know. This also reflects in operating KREIA. Active KREIA members have dwindled along with a pretty significant decline in new members every month.

Another critical concern for KREIA members involves the “pendulum swinging anti-investor” across America and in our hometown. Local government has been slamming investors with new rules, regulations, fines, and more, not only in Louisville, but in Oldham County, Bullitt County, and in southern Indiana.

Holy Toledo! How does KREIA survive and still offer quality benefits to KREIA members. This one of the huge issues your KREIA Board struggled with this past Thursday evening. In a nutshell, KREIA operating expenses have literally exploded and KREIA had been blessed in recent years with slight increases in membership annually.

Well, those days are gone, at least for right now. KREIA has also faced increases in fees from Masterson’s along with many other “behind the scenes” hidden expenses involving everything from newsletter postage to printing, insurance, tax preparation and filing fee, and the recent implementation of an Executive Director Rebecca McLean and staff. Rebecca, Troy and Kathy do an outstanding job. We have seen already seen big improvements in our newsletter, communications, along with having a real phone line now. This will only keep getting better.

Your KREIA Board is focused like never before. Tempers flared at this last meeting and in fact, Director Ken Harrison actually fell out of his chair! I am not kidding! These critical concerns involve primarily the new KREIA budget. Many programs and member benefits were mentioned for the “chopping block.”

Many thanks to Connie Horsey and Jean Hall. Take a look at how they pulled rabbit out of the hat. The CQ Princess Cruise for KREIA members was mentioned as a candidate to get “whacked” but Connie and Jean put in some effort by recruiting “sponsors” and have the CQ Princess Cruise back on track at a cost of ZERO dollars to KREIA. This is absolutely awesome. In recent years, this one event has cost KREIA thousands of dollars. Thank you!

Having traveled across America and seeing dozens and dozens of other investor groups in action, I have had the opportunity to compare KREIA to many other groups. I am proud to tell you KREIA is one of the BEST in the USA. Our President, Jay Long, recently accepted an award from National REIA for KREIA’s LOTS program and now many other REIA Groups are contacting KREIA to implement their own LOTS programs.

After careful review of KREIA’s budget during this board meeting, annual dues became a “hot potato.” Many REIA groups in our area have annual dues in excess of $200.00. KREIA’s annual dues are a bargain when compared to other groups and their benefits. Just like rent, KREIA should have been increasing annual dues slightly every year instead of operating years with no increase. It might seem like a big increase to some members, but it is almost half of what was recommended after your board’s careful review.

After much debate and discussion, your board decided to keep annual dues as low as possible for all KREIA members, but an increase is in order. Effective September 1, 2008, KREIA annual dues will increase to a measly $99.

You will see your KREIA Officers and Directors implementing many new changes along with adding more programs and member benefits by utilizing sponsors and vendors. Here is your opportunity to get involved with KREIA and play an integral part of making KREIA the best in the nation!
